Legends in Myrtle Beach Joins Forces with Toys for Tots This Holiday Season!

Legends In Concert in Myrtle Beach has once again joined forces with the Marine Toys For Tots Foundation to assist in bringing holiday cheer to less fortunate children in Horry County, SC.

After a wildly successful partnership with Toys for Tots in 2008, Legends In Concert will again serve as a drop off location for new, unwrapped toys that will go directly to needy children in the Grand Strand area. The theater in Surfside Beach will be offering a generous Buy One Get One Free VIP seat ticket offer to everyone who donates an unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more to this year’s Toys for Tots drive. To receive the Buy One Get One Free VIP seat offer, guests should mention the Toys For Tots promotion at the time of purchase and submit a toy valued at $10 or greater when picking up tickets. *This promotion is valid for the the entire week of performances from 12/7/09 through 12/12/09. Tickets are on sale now. VIP tickets are $39.95 for adults. For reservations, show times and more information, call (800) 960-7469 or (843) 238-7827.

“We are excited to have Legends in Concert back again this year, helping brighten the holidays for needy local children. Not only do they run a great “must see” show, but their fantastic offer demonstrates just how dedicated they are to spreading the Christmas spirit and helping the community!” said Mike Zemke, Co-Coordinator of Toys for Tots in Horry County.

Legends In Concert shares Mike’s enthusiasm. “We are extremely pleased to be able to extend this generous offer to our guests for such a worthy and uplifting cause.” said Legends In Concert Regional General Manager, Chris Beattie. “Working alongside Mr. Zemke has been an absolute pleasure. Last year our guests’ generosity was an overwhelming success, and we hope to bring more smiles to hundreds of less-fortunate children again this season.”

Legends In Concert’s Kirsten Glenn (Marketing Coordinator) and Robbie Howard (Frank Sinatra tribute) appeared on WMBF -Myrtle Beach on Thursday December 3rd, 2009 to discuss this great cause.

Big Hearts in Branson

Today’s fast-paced world is so busy that it seems we barely have enough time for ourselves. Nonetheless, some Legends Branson employees have found the time to open their hearts to others.

Peg and Jamie

Jamie and Peg

Peg Lindsay, who has been a beloved usher at Legends for many years, also volunteers at Skaggs Community Hospital. Every Tuesday she transports people to their same-day surgeries. She also volunteers in one of the many Methodist Thrift Shops in the area and remains very active in her church community. At 85 years old, Lindsay is truly living life to the fullest. Despite her busy schedule, she always has a smile on her face.

Another person sure to greet you with a smile is Jamie Curry. Curry, one of our fabulous Legends dancers, has recently become a volunteer with Skaggs Hospice and devotes his Thursday and Friday mornings to his hospice patients. He visits them in their homes to share lunch, life stories and lots of love and laughter. Jamie has even brought special gifts to his hospice patients (sometimes as simple as a chocolate malt!) and invited their families to come see Legends In Concert to lift their spirits. It is such a great feeling to know that our show is reaching out to those in the community whose hearts are so heavy.

We applaud Jamie and Peg for their commitment to serve the community and are truly proud that they are a part of the Legends family here in Branson.

LEGENDS “GREEN” TEAM

At a previous staff meeting, Legends in Concert employees shared their ideas with one another as to how we can “Go Green”. As we all know environmental and energy saving issues is a major concern for all of us and we at Legends wanted to share with you some of our ideas.

Light bulbs: Use energy efficient light bulbs. CFL’s (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs use up to 75% less energy than traditional (Incandescent) bulbs and they last up to 10 times longer.

Email contracts and bills if possible. This will save on paper that you would normally fax or mail as well as postage

Gather your staff and have a meeting of how you can “Go Green” at home and in the workplace. You will be surprised at the ideas people come up with!

Elect a “Green” candidate. During election campaigns, ask candidates about their position on the environment and how it will affect your community

Notify your co-workers, friends and neighbors of ways they can help by “Going Green”

Don’t use aerosols. When preparing for the show, we encourage our dancers and performers to use spray bottles rather than aerosols. Aerosols can’t be recycled, which means they will end up in landfills.

Save on gas and mileage reimbursement by having your sales staff schedule their appointments so that they are no back-tracking to the office.

Hello from Captain Whitaker

Legends Baking Gals -

Thank you so much for the support!  The boxes of treats have been rolling in.  Every day I brief the aircrews about their particular mission for the day before they go fly.  At the end of the brief, each crew (6 aircrew members) gets a box from one of you lovely ladies to take with them.  You have done wonders for morale and put smiles many faces. As the old adage goes, “the way to our hearts is through our stomachs” – how true.  Again, thank you!  We can’t wait to be home and see you all soon!

Meet Captain Christopher Whitaker

Edited Chris Whitaker.jpg

Chris grew up in a military family: spending most of his childhood living all around the world.  He went to college in North Carolina, graduating with a Business degree.  The seminal event that led Chris to the military was the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001.  His dad, a former military pilot and current airline pilot, called to wake him up that morning with the news and to ask him to pray for our country.  Chris did more than that.  Within weeks of the attacks, he had researched the ROTC options at his university and joined the Air Force contingent, joining a long line of men on both sides of his family who have served their country in uniform.

Chris secured a highly competitive spot in the US Air Force pilot training out of college.  After two years of Primary and Advanced Pilot Training, Chris received the coveted wings that designated him an Air Force Pilot.  Now it’s Chris’ own military career that takes him all over the world.

While deployed to Iraq, Chris’ unit flies troops and their equipment in support of the war effort throughout the Middle East.  He is constantly in contact with the various military elements being transported on their aircraft and has ample opportunity to “spread the cheer” and spread the word about the great crew at Legends in Concert, Myrtle Beach.  He’ll be seeing you later this year when he comes back to the United States from his current deployment.
